Spring into better weather with the Galland homes Spring Sale!

Beach plots, scripted waves, mesh palm trees, a dock with a boat, and a beach house.  That’s what many envision as what home should be like in Second Life.

While we as residents can always slip away to our virtual beach paradise, for some of us in the northern hemisphere, we’re coming out of a rough winter in real life.  It’s time to celebrate the return of warmer weather and plan beach trips.  To help spring people into better weather, Galland Homes is offering four of its most popular beach house models at 30% off this week (April 13-20).

Decorate your beach parcel in Second Life with any of the following homes : The Hilton Head, the Palm Springs, the Sedona and the Parkland Villa. (The Hilton Head is pictured below.)

Come to Galland Homes this week and enjoy spring time savings!  Visit Galland Homes here.

Modifying a Mesh House by Galland Homes in Second Life®

Some customers have expressed apprehension of mesh houses believing that a mesh house does not provide the same flexibility when it comes to making modifications as a prim house.  With some foresight in how the mesh house is constructed, this is not the case at all.

Many residents are used to texturing faces of prims to change a wall color or a floor texture they may want to modify.  Care is taken by Robert Galland during the modeling process to assign specific materials to each face of a mesh prim so that each can hold it’s own texture.  You can change textures on a mesh object just like any old fashioned Second Life cube prim.

Mesh Beach House Second Life

As an example, the living room of the Hanalei Retreat mesh house is pictured above.  All objects in the scene are constructed of mesh objects, but you could apply a new texture to the floor without affecting any other prim.  The same goes for each individual wall you see and even the tray ceiling, where you could apply new textures to the upper portion or the lower independently.  One thing to keep in mind during this process is you will lose baked in features such as the ambient occlusion (shadowing).  However, if you have a graphics card which allows you to see SL’s ambient occlusion and shadowing, you will see such effects on your own work anyway.  You would lose materials, however.  Robert takes advantage of the materials capabilities now available which are what gives the floor a natural shine as you walk across it.   (Note, you must enable the “Advanced Lighting” feature in your graphics options to properly see materials.)

Another example of materials in use.

Also, each wall is a separate object meaning you can edit linked parts and remove or move walls as you see fit.  You can unlink roof pieces, patios, doors, walls, etc.  As with modifying a prim house, you need some basic second life building knowledge and you will have to make any modified build work for you.  However, modifying a mesh house is easily possible.

The Adirondack Log Home, Second Life, Mesh Snow, Cabins, Log Homes

The love affair with log homes has seduced many in real life and within Second Life to adorn their lots with a rustic log home.  The Adirondack by Galland Homes follows the modern trend in log home design of combining logs, timber, and stone with modern considerations to accentuate our lifestyles in SL and our desires to enjoy scenic vistas.

Thus, the floor plan is open with high ceilings to accommodate the camera angles found in many viewers.  In real life, developments in the manufacture of protective glass and other materials used in modern log home construction has allowed log home designers to create incredibly strong, but open designs which allow great views and light to enter modern log homes. Within SL, architects are not bound by the real world considerations of wind and weight loads, etc. yet the Adirondack design is intended to make one feel as if they’ve entered a modern log home which would realistically find itself within the luxury vacation retreats within the Adirondacks or other locations.

This one bedroom home features a working fireplace in the Great Room.  The mesh bay window seat in the Great Room is included with the home and includes 12 preset animations for you or your guest to enjoy.

A mesh patio and fire pit off the rear of the home is included.

The windows, window blinds, deck planks, doors, some timbers, and the door jams are all constructed of mesh.  The 18 prim snow which is easily rezzed and derezzed using the control panel close to the bedroom doors is also constructed of mesh.  Most timbers are sculpted prims and a majority of the house walls, floors, and ceilings are made of traditional prims.  All prims and textures are easily modifiable should you choose, including the mesh deck planks.  UV ambient occlusion maps are provided for the rear patio and deck planks for your convenience should you wish to make textures in your photo editing program and edit the appearance of these mesh prims.\\
